automatic copies of files you don't yet have
This application simply copies files from one folder to another. It watches for new files to appear in a folder and copies them to another folder once they are complete. This is useful for over-night exports of big files that you need in two different locations when you come in the next morning.
What exactly XMiL Copier does
On an on-going basis XMiL Copier compares the contents of two folders. Those folders are the Origin folder and the Destination folder, both can be selected by the user. If a file in the Origin folder is ready to be copied, XMiL Copier will cause the file to be copied on the Finder level. A file is considered to be ready if
- it has kept the same size for at least 4 seconds. This ensures the file is complete and finished.
- there is no file with the same name in the destination folder.
When both these criteria are met XMiL Copier will check if any other copy process is currently under way. If that is so, it will wait for those copies to be completed. This applies to Finder copies initiated by the user or by XMiL Copier itself. Once nothing else is currently copying the application prompts the Finder to copy the file.
XMiL Copier only looks at one folder as the Origin. Any subfolders in that folder will be ignored, only files will be copied. The application is Mac-only, for OS 10.4.x and OS 10.5.x.
Turn XMiL Copier on and off with the button in the lower left of the main window. If you know you won't be using it for a couple of hours you may want to quit the application.
If the button in the lower left is turned off XMiL Copier will not do anything. To confirm XMiL Copier is active check that the word "Active..." is visible for a couple of seconds at the set Interval.
The interval between each analysis of files can be set in seconds. Sensible entries are anywhere from 10 seconds to 600 seconds, or 10 minutes.
An analysis of files can be triggered manually with the Test button, and under the right circumstances files will be copied.
